Beware of These Battlefield 4 Launch Issues

Battlefield 4 is now live (Game Front’s resident Battlefield expert Devin Connors calls Battlefield 4 one of the defining multiplayer experiences of 2013), and as a fan, I’m pretty thrilled. Also a bit concerned. This is DICE and EA we’re dealing with and smooth multiplayer launches aren’t exactly their strong suit.

The first Battlefield 4 launch issues have already reared their heads, so before you log-in for the war you should be aware of the following:

  • On PC, if you’re running a 32-bit OS, you must first download the Day 1 Patch or Battlefield 4 won’t run.
  • On Xbox 360, a sizable Day 1 Patch is also ready for downloading, and DICE strongly recommends you install it if you want a smooth multiplayer experience.
  • On PlayStation 3, if you’re dropped by PSN, even momentarily, you will be trapped in an infinite loading screen and you must completely exit and restart your game.
  • On PC, AMD GPU users running Windows 8 could experience major problems. EA Support says it is currently investigating a problem where the AMD/Win 8 combo leads to frequent crashes-to-desktop or a strange red screen limbo between matches and/or map changes. EA says running Battlefield 4 in Win 7 compatibility mode might resolve the issue, but it is still searching for a definitive fix.
  • On PC, if you receive an error message saying your Battlefield 4 key is already in use, you must first uninstall the Battlefield 4 beta from Origin.
  • On PC, there are also reports of numerous Punk Buster errors, namely that the anti-cheat software is out of date or not installed. If you receive this message, head on over to the Punk Buster download page, select For All Windows Games, and add Battlefield 4.

And as always, if you’re on PC, be sure to download the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia and AMD.

That’s all for now, though, unfortunately, we’re expecting this list to grow as more players log-in on all platforms around the world. If you encounter an issue or find a fix/workaround for one of the problems listed above, let us know about it in the comments section below and keep an eye on EA’s Battlefield 4 Support Page.

See you online!

For what it is worth, during the beta experienced only a couple of crashes throughout the week I played it. Totally expected for a beta. I’m running an AMD FX 6100/Radeon HD 6950 rig. By the time the beta ended it was running very nicely on medium quality settings. Will definitely be getting the game.

I don’t know why, but whenever I launch the game it loads. However, it only shows a black screen. I can hear all the game sounds and such so I know it loaded. Also when I tab out I can see all the game and can even control parts of it. But whenever I click it or tab in, it just shows a black screen and won’t let me do anything. Any assistance please?

I’m Pretty Disappointed So Far, the Campaign Is Just One Problem After Another. Like In The First Mission I Got Stuck In The Last Stretch Of The Mission Because The Jeep Kept Blowing Up Randomly. I Tried Driving At Different Speeds And Different Times But No Matter What I Just Blew Up. And Then The Second Mission In The Tower When You’re In The Elevator You And Everyone Else Just Fall Through The Floor And Get Stuck Somewhere Down In A Put Below The Tower. I Think It’s Embarrassing For.DICE To Have These Kinds Of Issues In Such A Large And Highly Anticipated Production Immediately After The Release.

Buyer Beware!!!!

If you own an xbox slim with 4 GB internal flash drive you cannot run this game. It will only allow install on traditional hard drive. Response to my request for a patch was a simple, “sorry, buy an xbox one and play it then.”.

Why does EA games hate their customers sooooo much!!!!!

We have an Xbox 360 4GB arcade xbox with a 13GB xbxo usb and it wont let us download the HD content onto the normal hard drive, thus not letting us access the game. Please help!

Match making on 360 live is broken badly. Four hours of play today and Quick Match never worked, server browsing produced errors 90% of the time. At one point it took over 30 minutes to get into a match with other people.

4 out of 5 games end in “error” .. I have played about 5 matches and all but one crashed out. These are host errors because all of my friends will get kicked at the same time.

I HATE scrolling to find weapons.. there is no visual list like in previous BF’s..

All in all I think the BF is visually stunning but the gameplay isn’t all that good. BC2 is still a better game IMO. These bugs just compound that fact.

I have been ranking up in support class and finally acquired the large ammo pack. Now all of a sudden… As soon as I spawn, my game crashes and I get a black screen everytime. I can play any other class except support. What a mess! =(

Game keeps crashing, can’t join squad pre game, this is exactly why and I hate to say it but cod owns the fps shooter category, never had issues this bad, what’s the point of putting out a beta if issues aren’t fixed by the time the game releases…

Its the first of November, and the game is officially launched and it has problems. PC is where I come from and the game still crashes.

I’ve had issues on PS3 too, I’ll unlock an item and then play the next game and it says I have it unlocked but can’t you it in a game cause I haven’t unlocked it, it’s frustrating, I just want my grenades..
And knifing is very laggy, it’s an awesome game but I hope EA and DICE do something quick.

I’ve just had my console crash twice in a row on the loading screen for a rush game. Playing on Xbox. Upsetting.

On November 2, 2013 at 1:26 pm

The PS3 controls are JACKED. The fact that Dice won’t let us customize to BF3 style makes NO sense.

Im playing on the 360 and i have gotten to the dam mission and it crashed. I had to turn off my xbox and back on, restarted the game got to the mission loading screen and it freezes. I tried installing the game in hopes that it would fix the issue and this happened on release day. I have been trying ever since and still unable to finish the game.

On November 3, 2013 at 12:38 pm

Wait, do they mean AMD GPU users or AMD CPU users? Because I have an AMD CPU and I have started crashing to desktop with “bf4.exe has stopped working” and I still can’t even join a multiplayer server. I just get the blue progress bar of death that never ever goes away instead haunting me like a ghost wherever I go even when I sleep.

So far I’ve logged about 25 min. and I am more frustrated than I have ever been in my life. It’s seldom that I turn to the twitisphere and blogging to search for answers, however here I am. I traded in BF3 and purchased BF4 today in anticipation of an all night destruction fest with my brother via multiplayer online. However the ONLY way we have been able to play a game together is if one of us joins a match with an opening or two and is able to invite the other into it. Why in the name of all that’s holy and good would they remove the ability to join games as a group? If there is a way PLEASE tell me and if there isn’t I’d like to know as well because frankly this game is useless to me if I’ve lost that option.
