Beyond Good And Evil 2 Confirmed; First New Image Released
Yesterday, Michel Ancel made the fondest wishes of a million nerds, including myself, come true when he confirmed, at long last, that the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic Beyond Good and Evil is actually under way. I’ll give you a moment to freak out about this.
OK, finished? Good. Now, Ancel confirmed this insanely wonderful news in an interview with French television, helpfully transcribed and translated by good citzens at Neogaf. “We are in an active creation stage and at this moment, he said. “We are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can.” This was in response to a question about a possible release date, and while he didn’t specify anything, he hinted it’s going to be out for the next generation of consoles. That sucks if you want to play it today, but I would much rather wait for a game worthy of the classic original, and it would make a fine launch title for PS4 or Xbox 720. Take your time, in other words. You are guaranteed to get my money.
The wait may not be as long as you’d fear, however. All Games Beta has posted what they’re claiming is an in-engine shot from Beyond Good and Evil 2, and we’re happy to post it for you here:
That’s pretty sweet looking, and a stark departure from the first game’s island city meets space aesthetic. No details about what we’ll see, story wise, have been revealed, but in the interview, Ancel said “We use a very dynamic camera that shakes a lot during the action to add life to the camera giving the impression of an action news cover team following Jade. Maybe that could be similar to Mirro’s Edge but the game itself is very different.” He also confirmed that the game will be third person despite being inspired by Mirror’s Edge. We are, to say the least, hell of excited about this.
