Bioshock Infinite: How to Farm Unlimited Gear [Exploit]

One of the trickiest items to find in Bioshock Infinite is the gear. These rare items randomly drop from special boxes, and those boxes are well hidden. Getting a full compliment of gear pieces will take most of the game, and there’s no way to plan your build when the items always appear randomly.

You can earn almost all of the randomized loot relatively early. One Gear box will respawn, allowing Booker to fill up. It’s a long trek to and from the location, but the added rewards might be worth your time. Check out the full guide below for detailed instructions.

Earn Unlimited Gear with this Farming Trick

NOTE: You can also farm lockpicks and cash using during this method. Check out how with our Bioshock Infinite Farming Guide.

  • Pieces of Gear are dropped randomly in special prize boxes located throughout Columbia. But, there is one spot where Gear will respawn, allowing you to earn every piece of random Gear all in on place.
  • It takes time to farm, but we’ve confirmed that this method works.

Gear Farming Guide

1. Load “Return to the Hall of Heroes”
2. Take the Sky-Line and Elevator Down
3. Enter the Toy Store Near the Carousel
4. Use Shock Jockey on the Generator
5. Collect Piece of Gear
6. Return to the Hall of Heroes Entrance and Leave the Area.
7. Exit the Hall of Heroes.
8. Repeat Steps 2-5.

Gear Farming Guide [DETAILED] – How it Works

  • Load the chapter “Return to the Hall of Heroes” where you’ll appear outside the Hall where Founders and Vox are fighting.
  • Directly behind your starting point are the doors into The Hall of Heroes. You’ll need to use these doors to enter the Hall. From the Hall Interior, leaving to the Plaza will cause any items in the Soldier’s Field area to respawn.
  • Go to the Plaza and defeat the Vox/Founders. Use the Sky-Lines to zip down to the lower Gondola Station and fight through the Founders and Fireman. Inside the entrance hall, you’ll have to deal with a Motorized Patriot.
  • Stun the Motorized Patriot and run to the elevator. Hit the button and you’ll return to the Soldier’s Field boardwalk.
  • Down on the empty boardwalk, the stores have all been closed. Enter the toy store next to the carousel, you’ll need to interact with the shutter to lift it up.
  • Inside the store, use Shock Jockey on the generator near the locked door. The door will open, where you can collect a piece of Gear.
  • Now, you’ll need to backtrack to the Hall of Heroes. It’s a long trek. Use the elevator, then ride the Sky-Line back up to the Hall of Heroes exterior entrance. Use the doors, and enter the museum.
  • Inside the halls, grab the respawning Salts and repeat the process. Return to the toy store, shock the generator and grab another random piece of gear.
  • Follow these steps. When switching between areas, the Gear box will always respawn. The piece of Gear it drops will always be random, but you’ll retain the items between areas.
  • It takes a lot of work, but if you’re willing to spend time farming this method really works.

Couple questions.

- If you kill all the enemies between the hall and the toy shop, do they respawn, or would you no longer have to worry about them afterwards?

- Do you have to go through the areas you’ve already beaten again? Or can you load up the section you’re at after you are satisfied with your gear looting and still keep them?

Thanks for the info though.

@Stephen,

Thanks for the questions! Here’s what I know;

1. Some of the enemies will respawn, while others will not. The enemies right outside the Hall of Heroes that attack from airships will not return upon repeat treks. But, the enemies down the central boardwalk at the bottom of the sky-line will respawn, with a Fireman included. This Fireman always drops a lockpick, so if you’re looking to farm those, that can done here. Before entering the elevator, there’s also a Motorized Patriot. Any defeated enemies won’t appear on the way back to the Hall of Heroes, but these groups will respawn. It’s possible, and sometimes preferable, to just run by them. The Motorized Patriot is very easy to escape, just dash right past him and hit the elevator button.

2. Unfortunately, this method only works if you’re planning on continuing from this point -as far as I’m aware-. Each chapter, I believe, has it’s own unique autosave that stays as is. There is no “global” save, except for items that count toward achievements or trophies. If you want to continue using these items, money, or lockpicks you’ll need to play through the game from this point onward.

Not the best answers, but I hope they were useful.

Thanks again!

So, I have a question… what happens later in the game when you find the other gear boxes? Let’s assume that you use this method to farm all of the gear in the game, are the rest of the gear boxes empty? Do they even spawn at all? Or is it possible that the game might just glitch out or freeze when you find the next gear box, when it tries to fill the gear box with a new piece of gear, and you already have them all?

I’m just wondering because many of the other gear guides make it very clear that you will always get a piece of gear that you don’t already have when you open a new gear box. That leads me to believe that this method has the potential to break your game, which could be very frustrating on 1999 mode. If possible, it would be nice to hear from someone that used this method and farmed all the gear, then continued successfully with the rest of the game without any problems. Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this double posts, I tried to post once and my questions didn’t show up, so here goes attempt #2…

1. This exploit seems by design. After repeating the process Eliz will remark “You’ve done this before, haven’t you?” If not, just a really good coincidence.

2. The bookstore and Ice cream parlor and be relooted as well. Perhaps $250 per cycle with a bonus of lock picks and salts. These items respawn as well.

@kingdomofdave,

Nice catches! I -think- the Elizabeth quote is just a coincidence, but you never know with Irrational.

I have done this farming trick and it works well despite the time consumed (2 hours+)

I gained some money and well as maxing out lock picks. It helped me to open all the locked safes up to this point of this game, three expensive vigor upgrades gained a lot of gears that I never knew existed on my initial playthrough.

Most of all, as I am on 1999 mode as I write this, I used this trick to get the all-powerful WINTER SHIELD gear, of which I finally got and it is really the most respectable of all gears available!
