BioShock Infinite’s Burial at Sea Ep. 2 Gets Thief-ish 1998 Mode

The second story DLC expansion for BioShock Infinite, Burial at Sea Episode 2, has a significant emphasis on stealth as players take on the role of Elizabeth.

In keeping with BioShock Infinite’s 1999 difficulty mode, Irrational announced today it’s adding “1998 Mode” to Burial at Sea Ep. 2. The difficulty setting (which will be available alongside 1999 Mode and is unlockable at the outset with the Konami Code) challenges you to use only non-lethal weapons as you sneak through Rapture.

According to the announcement posting on Irrational Games’ website, Creative Director Ken Levine said play testers were self-imposing non-lethal playthroughs as they worked through Burial at Sea Ep. 2 anyway, so in keeping with the homage to years gone by, the developer decided to formalize the difficulty.

The 1998-ish box art suggests the whole thing has a bit of a Thief inspiration, especially when compared to the box art for Thief II: The Metal Age, below.

Burial at Sea Episode 2 is set to drop on March 25 for $14.99 (or free if you instead opted to pay for the BioShock Infinite Season Pass).

@TheOneS2k

Yup, you’re right. Too much Wolfenstein on the brain. Fixed.

Also, how’s your trip here from 2009? I assumed you were a time traveler since you said “epic fail” apparently seriously.
