The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 11th annual Interactive Achievement Awards, and BioShock is understandably the favorite with having received over 12 nominations, including the coveted “Overall Game of the Year” award. These “peer-based” awards are in recognition of development teams, outstanding products, and talented individuals that have contributed to the overall advancement of the entertainment software industry this year.

“This year’s finalists reflect the commitment game makers have to create compelling, engaging and exciting experiences for the expanding game playing audience,” said AIAS president Joseph Olin. “The 2008 nominees represent the tremendous talent and passion that our members bring to their craft. The Interactive Achievement Awards are dedicated to acknowledging the men and women who create these innovative and excellent games.”

The AIAS awards ceremony will be hosted by Jay Mohr on February 7th at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas during The D.I.C.E. Summit 2008. Here’s wishing all nominees the best of luck, although personally, I will be rooting for BioShock.

It always seemed to me that the general public has something against Bioshock, to me its one of the best games i ever played, and these nominations are at the very least just. Im kinda shocked (pun not intended) that after seeing such great reviews, i still hear comparisons of Bioshock, and other games that makes not sense to compare to, and yet if the reviewers say this game is 9.7 worthy per say the public goes with naaa it sucked or it was ok, same thing happened to Assassin’s creed though it was not as good as Bioshock it still was a fun game, and all i hear is “Dis Game Sux bawls” yet other games like oh say Halo 3 gets peddled with perfect scores acros the board when the game disappointed like the rest of the series did for me after Halo 2. well All im trying to say is that maybe the public (not all) is not yet ready for a Game like Bioshock, because mark my words if the public had a choice on who to win these awards Bioshock would not win GOTY, im yet to see a Players Choice award for GOTY for Bioshock.
