BioWare Clarifies Mass Effect 3 Red Ending Detail

Mass Effect 3‘s “red ending” may have left you with one tiny question niggling away at you… Does Shepard survive or not?

In a post on the official forums, BioWare Community Coordinator Tully Ackland has confirmed that the ending is meant to imply that yes, Shepard is probably still alive. He wrote:

One of the goals for the Extended Cut, as part of addressing player feedback, was to provide more time with the love interest, and more opportunity for players to say goodbye to them and provide additional moments of connection between them. We did this in several ways:

  • Shepard can now actually say goodbye to the love interest when they are split up at the conduit run.
  • When Shepard sees flashbacks of important characters during the final decision, the flashbacks are now variable based on your playthrough – so your love interest can appear as one of the flashbacks, providing another moment of reflection between Shepard and that character.
  • A memorial scene was added, partly to show a close bond between Shepard and the love interest. The scene is variable, and if Shepard has a love interest in a given playthrough, it will be that character who places Shepard’s name on the memorial wall.
  • You may notice that in the “Shepard lives” ending, the love interest hesitates to place Shepard’s name on the wall, and instead looks up as though deep in thought. This is meant to suggest that the love interest is not ready to believe Shepard is dead, and the final scene reveals they are correct. As the Normandy lifts off, there is hope that the love interest and Shepard will again be together.

So that answers that. Which ending did you pick?

Exactly what i imagined about the perfect destroy ending!

Me i picked up the Control ending because i can’t accept EDI and the Geth being destroyed to stop the Reapers and i wanted the galaxy to stay in its original state instead of transforming everyone into hybrids of organics/synthetics. And since i dated Tali i’m in peace to imagine her find comfort in the arms of Garrus my best friend and a possible love interest to her.

I chose the destroy ending because I believe that no matter how high of a life-form the reapers and catalyst claim to be, they should still be held accountable for the lives of the trillions they’ve murdered. Sure EDI and the Geth died to make it happen, but I’d rather not compromise what I believe in.

i picked destroy, but mostly for RP reasons. My Shepard was a soldier first, and while he did creatively find solutions to problems in game, he was still a soldier with orders. Destroy the reapers. not control them and possibly lose control or turn evil, not combine life to alter the universe, just win. and that’s what he did.

Also, as cool as EDI was, and as Awesome as the geth were, i figured there would be at least one race that was gonna be lost

I chose destroy bacause that is what I have bben trying to do since the first Mass Effect. Why stop just because you have a option not to?

I always pick red. EC helped make the other choices a little more tolerable but I will always bet on red.

I know it is most likey just wish full thinking, but this almost suggests that there mit be more DLC to this fact. Where we see Shepard love interest go and find him or her in the rubble. But like i said It’s most likey just wish full thinking.

destroy is the only option and it kill that edi . I hated her since the second part and always wanted the option to tell her to off.
