BioWare Investigating Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Weapon Relock Issue

BioWare is looking into a bug in Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer mode that causes players to lose weapons they’ve previously earned and unlocked, according to a post on the company’s official forums.

Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer mode allows players to earn credits that can then be used to purchase packs of weapons, armor, items, mods and characters. The assemblage of stuff in each pack is random, so some packs are better than others. But it seems many players are finding things they’ve already purchased disappearing from their inventories.

That’s a problem because while ME3 lets you earn the credits to buy things (at a fairly reasonable rate, actually), you can also opt to purchase those packs with real money. So some players are finding they’ve traded Microsoft Points or straight-up digital cash, only to have their items vanish.

Here’s BioWare’s response on the issue, as well as some tips to avoid the issue:

Some players are experiencing an issue where kits they have unlocked in multplayer are becoming locked again (eg. Alien kits, weapons, mods, etc).

You can reduce your chances of this happening by:

  • avoiding going into the Store while ‘Ready’ for a multiplayer match. It’s best to un-ready yourself before you go to the store.
  • not accepting invites while in the store/purchasing

We continue to investigate this issue and will update when we have more information. Thank you for your patience.

Meantime, it sounds like more work is being done to fix things up for players who have already experienced the bug. We’ll keep an eye out for more information.

I better get my Black Widow back. Pretty sure that’s the only gun that made Gold challenges easy.

Haven’t had this issue (yet) on the PC version of ME3 – BUT I was playing MP last night and ended up getting stuck in/under the floor of the level and unable to get out or help My squad for the last 3 waves, before it finally crashed out to the desktop during the evac phase… so there are definitely more than just the MP Weapon relock issues to deal with. (Let alone the ending! lol)

I hope someone at BioWare has figured out that these problems occur even when one is not in a match lobby or “Ready.” I just had 60000 credits disappear after I was repeatedly not able to purchase a Spectre pack and then re-loaded ME3

Quit whining. Its a video game. Just get the widow back by earning some credits!

I had this happen to me and the official response I got from EA was that they do not have any idea what you have on your account because they don’t keep track of it.

Alright so this issue is entirely avoidable by doing the following:
Before purchasing a pack from the store, play it safe and quit the game, start it up and go into multiplayer. Go directly to the store, do not pass go, but collect your pack that way. This is a surefire way of getting those items and keeping them.

I lost over 180k credits by making the above mistake of purchasing packs in the store while hosting a match, even before people joined/left and before keying in ready.
