Bioware Reveals Most Popular Mass Effect Player Names

Bioware has revealed what the top five names players chose for their Commander Shepard’s in Mass Effect 3.

Writing in a post on the company’s official blog, Bioware staffer Conal Pierse released a list of the most popular first names for Commander Shepard. On the FemShep side of things, the five most prominent names were Sarah, Kate, Alice, Jessica and Alex. Among male Shepard’s the names Jack, James, Chris, Alex and Michael were most popular.

That being said, Pierse revealed that these custom names were vastly outnumbered by players who opted to just go with the game’s default names of John and Jane. The blog post, unfortunately, didn’t offer any numbers to help demonstrate just how wide the margin between default name users and “players who ventured off the beaten path” really is. It did, however, include information as to what the most popular names were for a variety of different languages. Russian-playing Mass Effect fans, for instance, were more partial to the names Alex and Kate while French fans liked David and Sarah.

Funny how they can come up with a comprehensive list about entirely pointless nonsense like this, but when it comes to the ending they still appear to believe it was just a “vocal minority” who was disappointed despite literally the entire body of evidence from all sources proving otherwise.

Just more fluff for the barking seals that still buy their unfinished, unoriginal games.

Hell, their own poll showed 92% dislike of the ‘ending’.

I can proudly say not a one of my Shepards had any of those six names.

*Six names because I ran exclusively FemShep.

Only had one play through. Was not disappointed. For my view on the series was not that of a heroic war hero. I would have renamed the series ‘The Glorious Galactic Sexcapades of the Great Commander Joekickass Shepard’

To me Shepard was just Shepard. I only used names to keep track of what each character was doing story wise.

@Taliesyn: and yet they swore up and down that ‘haters’ were just a small minority.
