Bizarre Creations Acquired by Activision

bizarre-creations-logo.gifBizarre Creations has always been an independent developer, but that will no longer be the case as the developer of Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars has been acquired by Activision. PGR4 and The Club (still being published by Sega) should see no impact from the acquisition, while future releases will be published by Activision, potentially across many platforms.

Under the terms of the deal, Bizarre becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision. None of the staff is being let go, and the studio will begin working on two new titles – a racing game and a “character game,” whatever that means. Activision expects the first of these to be released after fiscal year 2009.

According to Bizarre, this will be nothing but beneficial to them (then again, what else would you expect them to say?), so if you’re a fan of their work – and there sure are a lot of Geometry Wars fans out there – there shouldn’t be much of a need to worry.

Hopefully they continue to release the same high quality content we’ve gotten used to.

I can’t wait to see what Bizarre Creations will be working on now that they’ll be working with Activision.
