Black Isle Seeks Crowdfunding to Hire Staff, Then More to Develop Game

Black Isle Studios is seeking crowdfunding in order to become a proper studio again, at which point it’ll require more crowdfunding to make a game.

The studio isn’t yet at a stage where it can present a demo or proof of concept and is essentially seeking funding on the basis of its past reputation. Black Isle says:

“Our goal at this stage is threefold. Prove to management that you want Black Isle Studios resurrected — and all the history and tradition of excellence that goes with it; continue to staff up and complete our PV13 game design; and develop a tech demo / proof of concept for our design that will open the doors to additional funding.”

The first round of funding this incarnation of Black Isle is seeking is to bring on a full staff and become a proper company once again. Only two members from the original Black Isle team are a part of the new team, Mark O’Green and Chris Taylor, who is the head of the studio. Black Isle was revived by Interplay in August 2012.

Black Isle has a post-apocalyptic strategy RPG planned, named Project V13. In it, players will found a colony, gather resources, and repel enemy forces.

DO NOT CONTRIBUTE. It’s just a shamefull scam, period.

So the ”new” Black Isle need to be crowfunded 3 times to make a game, don’t even has concept or prototype to show, even if 1) they are backed by Interplay 2) they already have the assets of the, you know, dead Fallout Online nicknamed PROJECT v13 and 3) are back since 4 month ?

And for your money, you don’t even have the game for free at release !

Look at what Josh Parnell already did with Limit Theory in 3 months ( here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joshparnell/limit-theory-an-infinite-procedural-space-game ), he isn’t a professionnal gamer designer, started form nothing, works alone on part time schedule, and already have a running prototype !!!

Black Isle and Interplay have no excuse, sorry.

I think the two devs from the original team legitimately want to do something here. Yet they’ve gotta show something to people. Black Isle is a flat out legendary company, but back when they were around Bioware was a legendary company as well, and EA also made decent sports games that were willing to innovate here and there.

Lot has changed since then.

Yea, I am not funding a development team in order to make a studio, the idea is preposterous. I can see no advantages in donating, we get access to the forums and a badge, yea, value for money right there.

I have a funny feeling Interplay was the company Feargus Urquhart alluded to when he talked about a publisher approaching them to start a kickstarter campaign.

As others have pointed out. This is NOT Black Isles.

It is just bunch of new people with the Old Name.
