Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Nixes COD Points; Prestige Cap Revealed

Game Front wasn’t able to make it to Gamescom this year, but that doesn’t stop the news from rolling out, particularly the huge amount of Black Ops 2 news. For example, VG 24/7 is reporting on some details about BLOPS2′s multiplayer, and it might interest CoD vets. Treyarch is ditching Call of Duty points for their return to the BLOPSiverse, as part of their efforts to simplify the series’ leveling system.

In addition to no CoD points, Black Ops 2 will feature 55 standard character levels, as well as 10 prestige ranks. Every time you level up, you’ll get one unlock token. However, you won’t have access to all unlockable items. There are more than 100 total, but the player will select from a range of available options at each level up, creating a personalized, branching character progression based on their play style and preferences.

Once again, Black Ops 2 sounds like it might actually be shaking up the Call of duty franchise a bit. Probably not very much, but baby steps, right?

I think it is fair to say that Treyarch are innovating as much as you reasonably can without breaking the brilliant COD formula. I don’t want them to change the fast-paced, arcade style of the game…that is exactly what I love about it. So I give Treyarch huge props for innovating as much as they have within that scope. This talk of “baby steps” is misguided…
