Blizzard Mulls $30 Price & Collector’s Edition for Diablo 3 Expansion

The Reaper of Souls is fast approaching, and Blizzard wants your feedback on pricing and details.

According to a report by Polygon, Blizzard has sent a survey to select registered Diablo 3 users on Battle.net. The survey asks about pricing for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, and also asks participants about a Collector’s Edition.

From the survey:

“Our goal at Blizzard Entertainment is to make the most epic gaming experiences possible, so we want to get your feedback as a registered user of Diablo III,” according to the email sent out to gamers. “We invite you to participate in an online survey where your responses will help us determine which areas to focus our attention in the coming months.”

“Consider two versions of the expansion: a Standard Edition for $29.99 and a Collector’s Edition for $49.99. The Standard Edition includes the Reaper of Souls expansion; the Collector’s Edition includes the expansion, exclusive in-game content, and other bonus items.”

$30 for what should be a hearty expansion isn’t a tough price to swallow. We know Reaper of Souls will bring a new class (Crusader) to Diablo 3, along with a fifth act, wholly new environments, and a higher level cap.

The PC version of Diablo 3 sold 3.4 million copies on its first day of release, and 6.5 million copies during its first week. 4.7 million players accessed the game on day one (including 1.2 million players who netted the game via their World of Warcraft annual pass). Diablo 3 launched on consoles last month to critical acclaim.

Lame, lame lame, in Diablo 2 they brought out 2 new classes with the expansion…and many patches that changed the game forever for the best, nothing ive noticed that much in diablo 3, no new Runes, RuneWords insight there fore this game is due for dieing., do game devloppers become more lazy when evrey coin they earn… the best memories i have from D2 is the amazing items we would look for and the amazing duels that came with it, now all i remember of D3 is the ty auction house and out of price Rare items that are better then UNiques that would cost 2x the price of the rare item. the game was doomed long time ago, i know they plan on bringing auction house down but……. its too late on my opinions they made selling items Illegal in D2 but in D3 they owned the ..

This is expensive. I would have thought it would have been a 5-10 dollar download. Star crafts 2′s expansion heart of the swarm is a full game for $30 bucks on amazon. Why would anyone pay the same price for one level and one character? I think its better to wait until the price drops.

Blizzard is coming out with a free pre-expansion patch based on wikipedia but there is other sources as well that clams this, which includes:

- Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials
- Account wide Paragon levels
- Unlimited paragon leveling, with a bonus of +250 in each main stat (strength, dexterity, intelligence, and vitality)
- A new gem type: Diamond
- Class specific affix rolls on items

They could of added that to the expansion, but they didn’t… most expansions go for $40, and whats going to happen is when you play the pre-expanion your going to be all like wow this is way better now and your going to be sold on the fact to spend $30 on something that the new creative director and the team worked very hard on. I really think they might pull this off.
