Blizzard Considering Diablo for Consoles

Blizzard hasn’t had a game on a console in a long time (Justice League Task Force SNES, anyone?). That hasn’t stopped rampant speculation on Diablo being ported to consoles.

Yesterday at DICE, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime had this to say on consoles:

I think you could make an argument that a game like Diablo might play very well on a console. It’s something that we’re actually doing an investigation into to see if that could make sense.

He also acknowledged that there would be a lot of hurdles to bringing Diablo to console platforms. One in particular that he cited was the freedom to patch effectively and to add expansions. Considering the recent statements Valve has made about the two consoles, could Blizzard join the Portal 2 developer in bringing PC content to the PS3?

We don’t know, but it’s interesting that this tidbit came out of a discussion where Morhaime was explaining Blizzard’s preference for the PC platform due to the flexibility it gives the company.

I’d wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort of Diablo title hit consoles down the road. If we do, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for 4 player co-op, much like Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance.

I seriously hope they do not port this to consoles.
