Blizzard Organizing Hearthstone “Fireside Gatherings”

Blizzard is launching a new initiative to celebrate Hearstone’s iPad launch and help fans meet and play in person.

This initiative is rooted in new “Fireside Gatherings” which the company is describing as “get-togethers in public hangouts like coffee shops, book stores, and dorms where you can meet and mingle with local Hearthstone players.”

“These events range in size from 5-10 people in a small group to 100+ in a huge gathering, and require absolutely no minimum skill level,” said the company in an announcement.

Players who attend a Fireside Gathering couls, in turn, find themselves the beneficent of a special Fireside Friends card. The Friends card will become available beginning on April 26th and will be rewarded to players who play three matches against three people logged onto the same subnet. Players don’t have to attend a Fireside Gathering to earn one as long as they meet this criteria, but the company is obviously recommending it as an easy method of earning one.

To help with the early proliferation of Fireside Gatherings, Blizzard has launched a new website to help organize them and has also partnered with a variety of colleges across the United States to launch events. Players can also organize their own via the aforementioned website.

Blizzard does this after refusing to add in-game chat. Such hypocrisy.
