Blizzard Reveals New Male Models for Warlords of Draenor

In a new segment of Artcraft, Chris Robinson, art director of World of Warcraft, revealed what the new human male model will look like.

Robinson said the idea was to accent the new human model with a more detailed physique and to fix the clunky look the current design suffers from. A comparison shot shows the immediate difference between the two models, especially the facial features.

“As with the previous model redesigns, our goal here was to honor the silhouette and style of the original, while increasing fidelity and fixing some of the big issues we’d identified,” stated Robinson. “The male Human has long been a source of criticism from some of you for his odd proportions and face geometry. We’ve taken great care to ensure we’re not changing so much that he looks completely unlike anything you’d expect, while also correcting some of the more glaring problems. We hope you enjoy the results!”

If that wasn’t enough, the Draenai male model was also discovered on the Warlords of Draenor alpha server. The character models are still very much a work in progress (WoD is still in Alpha after all) and all changes you currently find are subject to change at the last moment, it’s still pleasing to see that these outdated models are finally getting a bit of a makeover.

Only male models revealed? This must be yet another example of misogyny in the videogames industry, even though it isn’t.
