Blizzard: Starcraft II is "the Best Work We've Ever Done"

starcraftii1.jpg

In a recent podcast from Blizzard (a.k.a. a “Blizzcast”), VP of creative development, Chris Metzen stated that the studio’s upcoming Starcraft sequel “feels like the best work we’ve ever done.” Considering this is the guy who created the storylines for the original Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises, those are probably words that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Metzen went on to say:

“It’s been very, very rewarding to see this thing take shape. Just getting back to that Blizzard of yesteryear where it’s not all about WoW – don’t get me wrong, I love WOW! But we’re so much more than that.”

As someone whose never even touched WoW and still thinks Blizzard is one of the best video game studios around, I’d say he’s spot on in thinking they’re “so much more than that.” And I think I speak for just about everyone in the PC gaming community when I say, “You’re making a sequel to arguably the best RTS to date. It had better be your best work ever.”

It better be the best work they’ve ever done for SC2 to be successful at pulling us away from Azertoh.

Please Blizzard don’t make the recommended system requirements to where I will have to take out a loan to buy a new computer in order to be able to play SC2? That is all that I ask.

Every time you take on a new project, it had better damn well turn out better than your last or else you’ve completely failed.

I agree with Weclock, it’s kind of an odd statement to make. I mean, I know where he’s coming from, but it’s something we, as gamers and consumers, expect…kinda a no brainer there.

Thor, EA would go,

“It’s been very, very rewarding to see this thing take shape. Just getting back to that EA of yesteryear where it’s not all about milking a franchise every year – don’t get me wrong, I love how much money were’re making now, but we can make so much more than that.”

Hey Jack, get a life.

Blizzard has PLENTY of games. Just because someone doesn’t play a single one doesn’t mean anything.

that’s like saying “if u havnt g0t a lvl 80 Dru!d, $haman, warri0r, palad!n, hunt3r,[insert class name of everything in wow here], u arnt a tr00 fan 0f w0w!!lolol scru|3!!

I have no interest in your opinion. And I couldn’t even read the second half of your post, not that the first half indicated there was anything worth reading.

I’m not that into the game. I love the world, and the story. Not the PvP and raiding.

Thank you for stroking my ego.

I think its clear enough that what he intended to do was let the many fans of blizzard know how SC2 was doing at this phase of development. But mostly I think he wanted everyone to know that SC2 is very important to the company, and that WoW isn’t the intire Blizzard universe. Some people may have questioned this given the insane media coverage of the WoW franchise.

I’ve felt Blizzard has been a great development team since the game Blackthorn. It was like classical Prince of Persia with a shotgun. The best feature of that game was the behind the head shot, and I would never get tired of it. Give you that Army of Darkness nostalgic feeling. I play WoW, and I can’t wait to play SC2.

Blackthorn is my 2nd favorite blizzard game, right behind diablo 2. Can honestly say that i never played diablo 1 so i guess i’m not a “true fan” but hey what the hell i love the company enough to keep a WoW subscription going even tho i don’t play that game at all any more.. boring gear grinding ftl. I can’t wait for SC2 either.

Starcraft 2 – We still have a lot 2 do…

My opinion:

The design of some units sucks.. (terran tanks etc)
It won t be the good old micro and team game..
Super weopons is c&c Style..

if that is sc2 it will be very sad for many oldschool sc Gamer, i hope they will change the one or other point…
