Blizzard Wants to Let Players Customize Their Equipment in Diablo 3

Following Blizzard’s admission of the problems with Diablo 3‘s auction house and their plans to improve upon the game’s itemization, the studio has revealed that they want to provide players with more control and customization of the items they equip.

Speaking about customization well beyond adding and removing gems, associate game designer Don Vu stated in a forum Q&A that the developers are “throwing ideas around” about putting weapon and item customization in the hands of players.

“Giving players more control and customization of their item stats is something we talk about a lot in our office,” he said. “There have been a lot of ideas thrown around here and some great suggestions from the community, but we have not finalized any systems yet.”

Vu named some of the possibilities for implementation, suggesting that players might gain the ability to swap out particular stats on an item for another of their choice, or upgrade an existing item with a specific stat.

He also suggested that it might be possible to create items with various fixed affixes, similar to Rare recipes, or even add socketable affixes in gem slots.

“All of these systems have their positives and negatives, so we want to make sure we make the right choice and consider all other changes we plan on making before deciding which systems we want to implement.”

Um so make the game more like guild wars 2? If diablo 3 wasn’t a hodgepog of ideas before, it will be more so soon enough.
