Blizzard Working on Porting Warcraft 1 & 2 to Modern PCs

Blizzard is working on bringing the original three Warcraft RTS titles to modern PCs, according to World of Warcraft production director J. Allen Brack.

As MS-DOS titles, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, and Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal won’t run on a modern Windows operating system. But at the World of Warcraft Q&A panel at BlizzCon 2013, Brack disclosed that ports are in the works.

“So, we actually have a guy on our team — actually several guys on our team — who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion,” Brack said. “We’re fans of Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, and we’d love to replay those games for sure.”

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans was released for MS-DOS in 1994. Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness first hit in 1995 and received an expansion pack, Beyond the Dark Portal, the following year.

I remember my disappointment the first time I tried to play WC2 in the new millennium, to no avail. Do I want a port? “Yesh me Lord!”
