There’s an interesting video on WoW Radio concerning the topic of ‘virtual economies’. I have been fascinated with the subject myself for years. A friend of mine who plays Final Fantasy XI religiously does so just for buying, trading and selling. I’d be willing to bet he hasn’t been on a single quest in over a year, yet plays the game for hours each day. World of Warcraft has taken virtual economies to a new level. I have even heard of sweat shops in Asia for the purpose of gold farming. Check out the Via link at the bottom for the site.
Virtual economies are nearly as complex and interesting as those found in the real world. Thousands of items are created and traded on a daily basis in World of Warcraft. Join this panel to learn about Blizzard’s approach to professions, item design, and the future plans for Azeroth’s artisans.
