Blizzcon 2011 Primer: Blizzcon Must-See Events

Can you smell that? That’s the smell of Night Elf cosplay and Hydralisk fan art. Yes, it’s that time again. Blizzcon 2011 is just a few short days away and when it comes to entertaining their fans, Blizzard rarely disappoints (well there was that Starcraft Ghost debacle).

Last year we saw a dance contest get out of control, got to play Diablo 3 (which still isn’t out yet), and rocked out to Tenacious D. So what’s on the menu for this year’s fan fiesta? I’m sure it will all be a blast, but these are our must-see events.

1. The Foo Fighters Playing the Closing Ceremony

Last year, Dave Grohl made a special guest appearance with Tenacious D during the closing ceremony. This year he’s bringing the full force of the Foo down to Anaheim to rock the house for all the Blizzard fans. If you miss this, you definitely won’t get your money’s worth for your ticket.

2. The Starcraft 2 Tournament Finals

Select, Dimaga, NesTea and many more pro players will be competing in this year’s Starcraft 2 invitational. It’s one of the most popular E-sports in the world and the chance to see the pros going at it will be an awesome sight. They’ve even brought in professional casters Tasteless and Artosis to give fans the play-by-play.

3. The WoW Dance Contest

Alright, everyone definitely needs to put this on their Blizzcon itinerary. The WoW dance contest is notorious for it’s out of control antics. These are WoW players who actually practice the moves they see when they type /dance. Last year one fan was so into it that he dislocated his ankle.

4. The Diablo 3 Release Date

They have to announce it. This game has been playable since last year’s Blizzcon. It’s the perfect place to reveal the release date! Hundreds of ravenous Diablo fans with easy access to their Twitter accounts will be there. It’ll be better then a hundred commercials!

5. World of Warcraft Preview

This is a main stage event, which means there going to be announcing something big. My guess is they will either be talking about the new 4.3 patch that will feature the final fight with Deathwing or possibly a brand new expansion: Mists of Pandaria. That’s right, Gamefront has been monitoring the possible expansion closely and suspect that some information may surface at Blizzcon 2011.

6. The Cosplay Contest

Two words: Hot Blood Elves. Technically that’s three words. It doesn’t matter. The point is, there will be attractive girls there dressed as elves. That’s really all I care about. There might even be a sexy Kerrigan cosplay. Basically what I’m saying is, I will be at that contest. If you’re lucky I’ll post some pictures.

7. The Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm Multiplayer Unit Reveal

Yes, we’ll finally get to see the new Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm units. Will Zerg finally get a decent harass unit? Will Terran become even more over powered? We’ll find out at Blizzcon.

”Will Zerg finally get a decent harass unit?”

You really dont play much starcraft do you?

Zerg has one of the most overpower’d harassment units in the game, Namely the mutalisk.

Not to mention a small ball of zerglings can do hideous damage if your opponant moves out for even a short while.

Its protoss that needs a decent early harassment unit as short of zealot rushing and fast DT tech (which will drain our gas and leave us extremely open to attack if the opponant has detection).

so david… L2P before spouting out crap like that.
