BlizzCon 2011 Primer: History of BlizzCon in Photos

With BlizzCon 2011 less than a week away, taking a look back at the history of this annual event can help us appreciate how huge it’s become — and how large it was to begin with. Blizzard’s celebration of its three major franchises has more than tripled its number of attendees since its inception in 2005, and if trends continue, this year’s convention will see a quadrupling.

BlizzCon 2005

The convention that started it all had approximately 8,000 Blizzard fans in attendance and featured a playable demo of the now defunct Starcraft: Ghost. A hired model wore a professionally made costume of Nova, Ghost’s main character, to promote the game:

Blizzard showed its support of eSports with an impressive Warcraft III champion trophy:

Sound and dance contests brought out the talent from the audience:

The costume contest saw some clear winners emerge in a murloc, a marine, a Keeper of the Grove, a dwarf, and Prince Arthas:
