Bohemia Strongly Hints At Day Z For Consoles

Bohemia might have their hands full trying to figure out how to extricate two of their ArmA 3 developers from the clutches of the Greek Military, but that doesn’t mean they’re not also thinking generally about their products as a whole, like Day Z, the Arma 2 mod that is coming out as a standalone game later this year. Speaking to Videogamer, Bohemia’s Jan Kunt hinted that they’re definitely considering a console version of the game.

“Obviously,” Kunt said, “DayZ, you’ve seen the success of Minecraft on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and we’d probably be stupid not to try to do something similar. We’ve always wanted to make games for consoles as well. Obviously we’re a PC developer and have been for some years, but consoles have a huge market and you don’t have so many problems with piracy. So,” Kunt continued, “it’s really interesting. PC is what it is, and I personally think PC players will stay as PC players, but the console has more penetration into mainstream markets. People who wouldn’t play games on PC, they buy an Xbox or PS3 as a medium to play games. So from that point of view it makes sense to go for consoles.”

That’s not confirmation, but it certainly sounds like they’re thinking seriously about it. What do you think, Game Fronters? Would you like to see a Day Z console version? I would, just as long as they don’t send their employees to take pictures of sensitive military installations while they make it.

Adam, you were seeing that correctly. The error was unintentional and has been corrected. Thanks!

as long as they don’t hose PS3 for it. I would like it and get it, but I know there would be MASSIVE survivor kills vs zombie kills, as you get alot more kids and lone wolf type actions by bringing it to the mass’s like that

As long as the PC version of the final product isn’t dragged down by its console counterpart, I’m all for it. Remember back when PC games and consoles games were developed independently of each other? Those were the good ol’ days when games catered to the strengths of each platform.
