Bohemia Interactive Announces ARMA: Cold War Assault
The ARMA series of military simulations has a pretty loyal following. The company behind those titles, Bohemia Interactive, got their start when they created the hugely popular Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. Originally published by Codemasters, OFP: Cold War Crisis is now discontinued.
Rather than allow the game to sit on a shelf somewhere, Bohemia is re-releasing it under a new name: ARMA: Cold War Assault. this new release will also include the Resistance expansion, originally titled Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. Discussing the re-release, Bohemia Interactive CEO Marek Spanel said,
After all these years of continuous support and improvements we are delighted to be able to unite our lineup of military simulators for PC under the Arma brand. This step will not only avoid potential confusion amongst users and the wider gaming public, but it will also preserve what is now a classic PC game for years to come as it could no longer be available under its original name.”
All existing users of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and the Game of the Year Edition are entitled to to download ARMA: Cold War Assault at no charge. You can also expect to see it hit various online stores soon (I’m betting it’ll be on Steam within a week).
If you haven’t played Operation Flashpoint, it’s one of the most modded games in PC history. If you’d like to know just how many mods you can grab for it, I highly recommend you check out our Operation Flashpoint site on the GameFront network.
If you already own Operation Flashpoint or the Game of the Year Edition, you’ll want to patch them up to make them become ARMA: Cold War Assault. Luckily, we’ve got the patch for you as usual. Just hit the shiny download button and get busy downloading!
