Borderlands 2 Level Cap Raising To 72, Overpower Levels Revealed

Borderlands 2 is set to receive even more content expansions in the form of DLC. On Sept. 3, Gearbox will release a level cap expansion to 72, and a future update will allow you to “Overpower” beyond that. The plan to increase the level cap was previously revealed alongside an announcement for Headhunter DLC.

Today, new details have surfaced about what that entails. The upcoming DLC includes the four-player Digistruct Peak Challenge area where players will face off against various enemies from the game. The enemy classes will grow progressively stronger, and then become more randomized as you gain new “Overpower” levels.

Despite the game’s level cap being set at 72, the Overpower levels will allow you to go past that number. If you enter a special arena at max level, you’ll be able to unlock those levels starting at Overpower level 1. When hosting a game with other players, you can set which Overpower level you want to play at, giving you access to monsters and loot up to level 80.

Gearbox explained to DigitalTrends that it is implementing Overpower levels rather than a full unlock of level 80 to allow character classes to maintain build diversity.
