Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Officially Announced

The Borderlands game that was rumored earlier this week is real, and has been officially announced by 2K.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is headed to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall. The game follows Handsome Jack’s rise to power, and you play as one of his four lieutenants: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, a militarized Claptrap.

Co-developed by 2K Australia and Gearbox, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will add all those features we heard rumors about, including low-gravity and oxygen-free environments. Players will be able to vent their oxygen tanks to get a jetpack-like effect, and there’s also a ground slam mechanic, allowing you to rocket into the ground and stun nearby enemies.

The game will be on display at PAX East this weekend, so we’ll be getting our first look at it very soon. You can see more info and some gameplay in the video above. Keep an eye on our PAX East 2014 page for more on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and all our other PAX East coverage.

Interesting decision to go with characters that we have already encountered as the playable characters for this.
