New PS4 Updates, Further Reading

Here are a few new tidbits about the PS4 that have come to light since the console’s debut back on February 20, 2013.

-The PS4 camera is pretty nice, boasting a resolution of 1280×800, running at 60Hz.

-Here’s a video showcasing the new PS4 controller, and what developers think of it.

-The PS4 will support NVIDIA’s PhysX and APEX technologies.

-Sony CEO Jack Tretton has hinted that PS4 games won’t cost above $60.

-With a little wish-washing, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said “yes” to the question “will the PS4 be able to play used games?” It had been suggested that the PS4 could, possibly, maybe, block used games from playing, requiring a fresh “new” version of every title.

-NVIDIA compared the PS4 specs to that of a “low end PC.” Snap.

-Though things are moving decidedly digital, you’ll still be able to buy good ole’ retail hard copies of PS4 games.

-The PC-exclusive shooters Blacklight: Retribution and Primal Carnage will be available for the PS4, too.

-Want to build a PC comparable to the PS4′s power? We’ve put together a guide to help.

-Here’s a video of the unreal engine 4 funning on the PS4.

I had hopes of seeing a console with more horsepower but this thing is a looking like a disappointment.

I’m hearing its a 1.6GHz clock rate on the 8-core CPU…. that’s like 10 times slower then a mid-grade i5 CPU…lol I’m guessing a lot of the processing will be offloaded to the GPU … an ATI 7850 on the same die. But this rules out very CPU intensive games like Planetside 2 from coming to PS4.

I’d still like to know if it has displayport and the max resolution, and whether it uses a platter or solid state drive. If its stilll 1080p max, even with an SSD (which I doubt), this thing has the horsepower of the mediocre PC of three years ago.

If it doesn’t eliminate load screens I’m not buying it.

When they saw it was all turning cloud-based and foggy… there were many that jumped into the boat and many that jumped out. But they were all caught in a digital-storm in the middle of a deep blue ‘open ocean’. And those who thought their boat was safer, were first to drown.

Rumor has it that the Watch Dogs demo was running on PC (one with similar specs/power to the PS4)

I will wait for more information. And to see the actual device! ha!

Its about time. The current crop of consoles is holding graphics progression hostage far to long. Looks like to be a custom APU with 7800 series graphics power. There pushing streaming big time i see with Gaikai. I wonder if achievements you earned with a the ps3 will rollover to the ps4. Another nothing was mentioned of blocking used games.
The biggest surprise: Blizzard and Sony are entering into a partnership “to take over the world.” Lol with D3 in there wet dreams.

wow what a glorified tease. No hardware presented at all showing real games. No release date or price. Just a gathering to watch tech demos and blow hot air.

I dunno. I’m not excited with the PS4 console.. and besides there are still lots of PS3 is still kinda new. Would that be bad for business?

PC gamers should all be rejoicing at this. It’s finally lifting up the low bar, and we’ll all see better games for it. Sure this thing isn’t the powerhouse current gen PC’s are, but developers stopped developing for current gen many years ago. Even the few developers that develop AAA PC exclusives are still looking at the last two years of hardware as their baseline.

So fret not fellow PC gamers, this is actually good news for us all.

And you really think peoples care for that Derek? They will buy this console no matter what if the games are really appealing. Beside PC is BEEP.

Once again it’s Hellgrazer to the stupid statement of the year remark. Sounds like our winner is a little short on words. Here, let me help you with that. The words you were looking for are something like awesome, never ending, superior, the bomb, the alpha and omega, All those fit, but this one probably is easiest for someone like you to understand. The best.
Good luck with you English lessons in the future. Kids take note. This is what you will turn into if you don’t do your homework. Oh yes, and don’t do drugs. See what they’ve done to him. (not pretty).

So, I’ve heard OnLive’s got custom neural hardware for video streaming needing only 2Mb for acceptable stream… unlike GaiKai that still needs at least 10Mb for streaming since it’s all software.

And here’s another… Just speculation… GaiKai partnered with Sony to sell the PS4, (duh!)… but… they’ll use all PS4s sold as hardware to upkeep the cloud instead of their own datacenters… using a little space of everyone’s hardware power and connection to cheaply upkeep it all. Haven’t you all heard of project folding@home before? …Now that’s really bond-evil don’t you think? The conspiracy gets worse… but I’ll reveal more if certain events unfold as I foresee.

I’ll keep channeling prophecies in the forest.

So far I am totally unimpressed with both “nextgen” consoles.
I have been a HUGE console gamer but I think I may stick with my 360 and PS3 and PC.

The only thing I heard during that presentation that got me excited was the dev frienly part.
That won PS2 its gen, I’m waiting to see if it will get PS4 its.
