Buffy MMO Announced; Firefly MMO "Delayed" (Read: Probably Canceled)
Remember Multiverse? You know, those guys that are developing an MMO based on the popular TV show, Firefly? Well, they just recently announced a handful of new projects in the works, one of which is based on another Joss Whedon property. First up is “Places in Time: Titanic,” a virtual learning tool for the doomed ship based on James Cameron’s vast research during the making of the hit film. Then there’s “Multiverse Places,” which is basically like Second Life. Finally though, there’s the much more interesting announcement of a new MMO based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The game will naturally be based on Joss Whedon’s hit series and will allow gamers to either play in a fully 3D environment or in a 2D flash game. I’m not quite sure how that will all work, but I’ll be okay so long as I get to play as an ass-kicking vampire.
Sadly, not all the news from Multiverse is quite so welcome. That Firefly MMO? Yeah, it’s been “delayed,” which is probably industry speak for “most likely canceled.” Who knows though? It may be revived if Buffy turns out to be a success.
