Bungie Confirms They Won’t Be At E3 2012

Those of you hoping Bungie might be showing off their first post-Halo game at E3 2012 can now officially consider yourself disappointed. Bungie has confirmed that they won’t be at E3 in any official capacity, in response to a question from a fane.

“Have you guys finished your new game presentation for E3?”, user Oldpaparich asked. “Nope,” Bungie responded. “We never started one, and we’re not going to be at E3 in any official capacity this year. Some of us will be there, lurking from booth to booth, but don’t expect any announcements.”

Well darn. The upcoming game, codenamed ‘Destiny’, is a science fiction action shooter with MMO elements. The first installment is due in 2013. It’s also the first game Bungie is making for Activision Blizzard, though with a much more favorable contract than they had as a Microsoft subsidiary. Microsoft retained the rights to the Halo franchise when Bungie was spun off into an independent developer. They’ll keep the rights to this game.

But anyway, put away thoughts of hearing anything about Destiny out of your mind. Na ga happen.

I haven’t cared about Bungie since they were acquired by Microsoft in 2000, turning their amazing feature-rich vision for the Mac/PC Halo into the husk that was “Halo: Combat Evolved” for the Xbox. This in turn also started the whole migration of PC developers to the consoles which has stagnated advances in gaming for over a decade.
