Call of Duty 4 Patch and DLC Details

call-of-duty-4.jpg

Robert Bowling (or Fourzerotwo as he’s better known by), Infinity Ward’s community manager, recently chatted about Call of Duty 4, with the discussion getting into what we can expect the patch for the console versions of the game to fix and some details on the upcoming downloadable content.

Most importantly, I think, the patch will enable host migration – that is, when the host leaves a game, the game won’t end and kick you back to your private party screen. Other cool new additions include additional kill cams to everything – grenades, bombs from the plane that was called in for an air strike, etc. – so you’ll be able to watch your demise no matter what killed you.

Snipers and ACOG scopes will become more accurate following numerous complaints from the community that shots weren’t registering. IW looked into it and realized there might indeed be an issue, so that should (hopefully) be working properly once the patch is released.

As for DLC, the majority of the new levels we’ll be seeing are entirely new concepts that were developed post-launch. There are some maps that are derived from the single-player game that didn’t make it for launch, but Bowling assures us that none of it was held back so that it could be later released as DLC.

I’m excited to get back into the game, and depending on when the DLC is released (and how much it costs – two things we don’t know about currently), I might be spending some significant time with CoD4 once again.

I just wish they would tweak the weapon balance so that there becomes a reason to use any weapon other than the M16.

Wow! I might actually have a reason to use a sniper rifle and ACOG scope? Even in Hardcore mode sniper shots don’t register half of the time. It is common to get off two or three headshots that don’t register, however the muzzle flash reveals your location, only to get killed by return sniper fire!

Depending on map and gametype, I think the RPD (Mid-range,Deathmatch), M4 (Hardcore), AK74 (close-range, Deathmatch), P90 (close-range, hardcore), and of course the M1014 Shotgun (close-range, any type) are worthy additions to your arsenal along with the M16.

But add reliable sniper aim, ACOG scope for extra distance and accuracy, migrating hosts, and NEW MAPS! You are talking about some real changes to how COD4 will be played (for the better)!! Can’t wait!!

Dude, I couldn’t agree with you more! I knew they were adding new maps but all this killcam and ACOG business is getting me pumped! I love CoD4 but I definitely HATE the ACOG. What’s the point of using it if it only makes your gun worse? This is like a dream come true! It’s like them adding a new attachment if it ends up working well! : I Love Infinity Ward! :
