Call of Duty: Black Ops Has Grossed $650 Million

Remember when everyone was predicting how Black Ops would do in comparison to Modern Warfare 2? Analysts thought Black Ops would sell less than MW2, Treyarch said it would be “bigger and better” than MW2, and Gamestop said that Black Ops pre-orders were surpassing those of MW2.

Well, it looks like those who were predicting Black Ops to come out ahead are getting a little validation. Activision announced today that Call of Duty: Black Ops has grossed $650 million in its first five days at retail. That’s a lot of greenbacks.

In fact, it’s more than the $550 million Modern Warfare 2 made last year. Activision says that Black Ops has,

shattered theatrical box office, book and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell through in dollars.

We’re not surprised by the success og Black Ops, especially considering the marketing campaign Activision put behind it. Still, congratulations to the folks over at Treyarch. I imagine they’re feeling pretty darn good right now.
