Call of Duty: Ghosts Pre-orders Well Behind Black Ops 2′s

In today’s conference call with investors, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg noted that pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are well behind those for Black Ops 2 at this same point last year. Hirshberg chalked up the down numbers to the fact that consumers don’t yet know what platform they will be playing the game on; it is possible that the PS4 and Xbox One will not launch until after Ghosts’ November 5 release date. Hirshberg also observed that Ghosts pre-orders are still twice that of the first Black Ops at the equivalent point — he made that comparison because the two games are the beginning of subfranchises.

Another notable point he made is that cash from digital Call of Duty purchases, which includes both games and DLC, was up 100 percent year over year in Q2 2013. So, no, Call of Duty isn’t hurting just yet.
