Carmack Promises Rage Tools Coming ‘Real Soon’

Rage has been out for over year now, but modding tool still haven’t been made available. This is of course one of the many missteps id Software has admitted to making with the game, and given how forthright they’ve been, we forgive them. But still, it would be nice if they’d hurry up and release some. Fortunately, it looks like they’re actually about to do just that.

In response to a tweeted question about modding tools for Rage, John Carmack had this to say:

BFG work pushed the Rage tools, but Real Soon Now. I hope. Sigh. I think we have made poor decisions on this all year.

I absolutely love how unfiltered (and unedited!) John Carmack is. It’s adorable. Also, hopefully this means they’re actually working on them actively. We’ll see.

I don’t see the point in releasing it now, maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think a lot of people care about it anymore.

I’m fairly certain I’m in the minority, but I actually really liked Rage. At the time, I was pretty much OD’d on the various Fallout titles, and I found Rage to be a nice change of pace. A bit short, and the final act was somewhat unimpressive, but the pieces were there to be a really cool game.
With the right toolkit, the potential exists to do really good stuff with Rage. We’re just scratching the surface of possibilities with idtech 5. Unfortunately, this is probably showing up so late to the party that the majority of potential modders have moved on. Shame.

Yes here is another from the minority, i liked Rage because it has high performance gunplay and I am a tech person so i like to explore the technology and fiddle around with engine dev console, still waiting for mod tools, we won’t give up so easily, mod tools will be very extensive, it’ll not be easy so it may look like there would be no interest but it won’t possibly be like Skyrim or Starcraft since the modding tools are not made for accessibility (accessibility kills performance, script compilers are really bad for performance but great for modders who aren’t real programmers)

Still have Rage installed, ain’t going anywhere.
