Cartoon Network Characters all Grown up in FusionFall

fusionfall.jpgCartoon Network’s Chris Walden took time to talk to The Escapist at GDC 2008 about the company’s upcoming FusionFall MMOG. This online game translates some of your favorite Cartoon Network characters into a more mature manga style toons for the game.

For instance, Dexter from Dexter’s Lab is about six feet tall in the game, and his shock of red hair has been replaced by a hipper ‘do. He also runs a mega-corporation. And instead of high-powered assault rifles and razor-sharp melee weaponry, players can fire bubblegum machine guns and swing parking meters at bad guys.

Characters will have MOBs to battle, but they’ll also be pitted against their environment in dungeons with nothing but features from platforming games like zip lines and super trampolines.

Somehow I just can’t wrap my head around this concept. While I understand that all the characters involved come from a myriad of animated styles, I can’t imagine identifying as well with my favorites after translation. Fortunately, I’m not the demographic (ages 8-14) the company is aiming for. FusionFall is set for a TBA release date in 2008.

This will be a great pc game for kids! I think I might even be willing to try it. It sounds fun and I think it will bring cartoon fanatics a chance to get closer to their favorite toon.
