Cavanagh Promises VVVVVV on Handheld Devices This Year
Terry Cavanagh’s VVVVVV is pleasantly painful platformer that has been delighting and frustrating computer gamers for years, and Terry says now on his blog that the long-awaited mobile editions of the game — iOS, Android and PS Vita — along with an Ouya release are in the cards for 2014.
“This year, I’m going to release VVVVVV on PS Vita, on iPad, on iPhone, on Android, on Ouya. And, if I can manage it, all at the same time,” Cavanagh said, mentioning also that this will be the end of the road for the title, which first launched three years ago on Saturday.
VVVVVV is just the sort of simple platformer that is quite effective on touchscreens, and the controls consist only of horizontal movement and a tap to reverse the flow of gravity. And while it’s extremely difficult at points, it never stops being enjoyable. And while its mechanics can’t be said to have become terribly influential, VVVVVV is definitely the seed of the 2D portions of Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, released in November on PS3.
