Cave Johnson Buys Black Mesa in Portal 2 DLC Easter Egg

Yup, that’s right, Black Mesa: Apeture Science now ones you. Apparently that whole multiverse scheme is working out for the company’s bottom line.

Hidden in the newly released Perpetual Testing Initiative DLC pack for Portal 2 is a fun little audio clip of Apeture founder Cave Johnson notifying Black Mesa of Half-Life fame that it has been acquired by its portal-developing rival. The audio file has been lifted from the DLC and made available right here. Go listen to it.

Supposedly if you’re willing to sit there and refresh the page, you might randomly trigger a sound clip of Gabe Newell, as well.

Thanks, VG247.

Cute, but is this canon? I seem to recall Aperture’s increasing frustration that they couldn’t compete with BM. The two companies were in a race to develop portal technology when BM triggered the invasion.

Pretty sure that it is not canon, based on what you said. Also fairly certain that the downward spiral of Aperture never saw them with the capital to purchase BM; at least, it seemed like things never improved before Johnson’s death from toxic moon dust.

Click the “Blappature” logo, it loads the Gabe clip (which is just him saying Hi)
