CES 2008: Bill Gates Sees Xbox 360 as “Most Reliable Videogame Box”

xbox-360-rrod.jpgThe BBC recently had a chance to sit down and chat with Bill Gates at CES and was kind enough to lob reader questions at the Microsoft chairman. Among them was a question asking what was being done to ensure that future versions of the Xbox 360 were more reliable than what we’ve seen.

Gates’ answer sounded more like marketing speak than anything else, stating, “We certainly had to apologize to our users about a number of boxes that had to be replaced.

“We did that for free for all those people; we’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback about the way we handled it. We’ve got incredible reliability on the new work that we’ve done, so our commitment is that it will be the most reliable video game box out there.”

“People really love the Xbox because of the content, but we’ve got to make sure that the hardware never stands in the way of that.”

Claiming that it will be the most reliable videogame system seems like a rather grandiose claim, given the sheer amount of hardware failures that have been experienced in the console’s first two years on the market.

I don’t see how he could possibly claim that the 360 is reliable. The system itself is junk. Xbox 360 is great right now because it has the best games.

“We did that for free for all those people; we’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback about the way we handled it.”

I also find this statement a bit alarming. Who out there is happy how they handled replacing systems? I had to wait so long for mine to get sent back to me that I just went and bought a new one and then sold the old one for half of what it was worth when I got it back. How is that a great way to handle it? The turn-around time for getting your Xbox fixed is simply terrible.

i am a Xbox 360 fan over the PS3 and i laugh at those comments. There is NO way in the world the Xbox 360 is the most “Reliable” videogame box. There is no reason for me to get a PS3, but its more reliable than any Xbox 360.

Red Ring of death? hmmm. My friend works at bestbuy and returns for warrinty repair, you be sure in the pile of send outs there will be 1. an Ipod and 2. Xbox 360 sent out for repair.

PS3=Reliable (not many good games)
Xbox 360 = Not Reliable, cross your fingers, knock on wood it works. (lots of games)

this is my oppinion so dont start a PS3 vs Xbox 360 flame war. I may get a PS3 when a game i like is out for it i cannot get on the Xbox 360.

Reliable?? i laugh at you MR Gates.
