PC Performance Fixes & Tweaks Guide

Note: Official fixes are incoming. Until then, try these community-suggested fixes and tweaks.

Random Crashes / Freezes – How to Fix

Update to the latest drivers from Nvidia or AMD.

New drivers were released for CoD: Ghosts & Battlefield 4 to improve stability and performance. Other problems and fixes include:

  • Set all Overclocked or High Priority hardware/software to Factory Settings.
  • Shut down overlays or programs such as FRAPs or After Burner, shut them down while running Ghosts.
  • Install the latest updates to DirectX, .Net Framework, NVidia PhysX or AMD drivers.

FPS Drops Randomly – How to Fix

To fix drastic FPS drops (during death, leaning) try this fix:

  • If FPS drops while playing in Fullscreen, go to the video options.
  • Change to Windowed (No Border)

Low FPS – How to Fix

Due to memory leak issues, running background programs or overlays (FRAPS) will cause performance issues.

  • Close any background programs/overlays (FRAPS) – Try running Steam in Offline Mode or disabling Steam Overlay.

Alter these settings to improve FPS:

  • Distortion: No
  • Motion Blur: No
  • Depth of Field: Off
  • Terrain Detail: Off

Mouse Acceleration / Stuttering FPS – How to Fix

Currently, Ghosts will stutter when set to “High Priority” — alter the settings with these steps:

  • Open Task Manager (TaskMgr – Ctrl+Alt+Del).
  • Scroll and find iw6mp64_ship.exe
  • Right click on iw6mp64_ship.exe, then Set Priority: Normal.

Select the CoD: Ghosts .exe and set priority to normal to help fix FPS performance issues.

Windows 8.1 currently causes problems for some users. Check these Mouse Control Panel settings for a temporary fix:

  • Do not set “Enhance Pointer Precision” to ON.
  • Do not set any mouse “Acceleration” options to ON.

Other programs running in the background, such as FRAPS or the Steam Overlay, can cause problems with mouse acceleration. To turn off the Steam Overlay:

  • Right click on Call of Duty: Ghosts in your Library.
  • Open “Properties” and uncheck “Enable Steam Community In-Game” under the “General” tab.

If you’re using a special gaming mouse, try reducing the polling rate to 250Hz.

This next fix requires altering Ghosts’ config files. Do so at your own risk, and save default back-ups. Go to the Call of Duty: Ghosts installation folder and find config_mp.cfg then open it with a text editor, like Notepad. Find the line:

  • seta r)elevatedPriority “1″

Change it to:

  • seta r)elevatedPriority “0″

If you’re using Steam, find this folder at SteamApps/common/Call of Duty Ghosts/players2

Weapon / Texture Flickering – How to Fix

If you are experiencing strange flickering on weapons, attachments or textures:

  • While running on Crossfire or SLI configs, run Ghosts with a single card.
  • Change screen resolution — upper or lower.

Unable to Connect Online – How to Fix

If your NAT settings are “Strict” or “Normal” you may be unable to connect to online matches. To fix:

Missing .dll Files – How to Fix

If a message appears stating you are missing one or several .dll files (Msvcr100.dll, Msvcr110.dll or Msvcr120.dll), download and install the latest DirectX & Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable

Having more issues? Know a fix we’re missing? Let us know in the comments.

anyone notice you can’t save your graphic settings like in
Texture quality TAB to Manual–
Texture resolution
Normal map resolution
Specular map resolution & Water map resolution.

They all go back to Normal and don’t save for the life of me everything else saves. It’s annoying have to sit through the cinematic scenes again and again trying to figure this crap out. Anyways they need an obvious new patch or should have tested the game a bit longer on other machines which I’m sure they rushed it for obvious reasons. Anyways Video games are all universal by one company and I have proof of this but we all knew this right? If not then you’re a nieve sheep.

The DirectX 11 crash! That is a massive problem, and the driver updates don’t do anything, I have the correct specs, and more. Help!

@archerstown

Unfortunately, DirectX 11 crashes are a common issue with CoD: Ghosts. If the latest drivers don’t work (try downloading them again, some users have had luck this morning) the only thing left to do is verify the installation went through correctly.

Check out this support page for info if you purchased Ghosts on Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5673-ILZN-3890

Activision has acknowledged this issue and stated they’re working on a fix. Hopefully that fix will come sooner rather than later.

Your fix for the priority change on “iw6mp64_ship.exe” to “normal” does not work at least on Win 7 returns an “Access Denied” error.

I would like to also comment something very important that I have found out. Ive had issues with the game sitting at no more than 35-40 FPS and lagging badly. Also in loading scenes it would lag and chop up audio badly. Could not figure it out for the life of me I tried everything on this list to no avail. I started messing with stuff and i DISABLED CROSSFIRE and bam everything ran like gravy and over 100-120 FPS. I believe the Devs didnt make it crossfire enabled.

As clshades said before me. Crossfire does not work with ghosts tested by him and confirmed by me

@Bungl3,

I believe most “Access Denied” errors are tied to administrative permissions or antivirus protection. Make sure your antivirus software excludes the .exe or that you’re logged into the administrator profile allowing you to make priority changes. When does the error appear? When trying to run the game, or just when attempting to alter the priority level?

Hello,

When I am in the campaign I am missing some things, first I am missing a game-mode extinction and I also am missing dialouge in the first mission which disables me from getting to the house where I can proceed throughout the game. Also, some things that should be happening don’t, in the first mission a car should leave it’s driveway and it doesn’t. I don’t know if all of these things are related or not, please if anyone has any help let me know!

Thanks

I, like most, only experience the FPS drops in a couple areas. But go figure they are the most graphically heavy areas of the game. For example, there are certain areas of certain maps when you can see across the entire map, and those areas the FPS drops big time. The maps are HUGE. I’d like a couple small maps please…

And if you say Free Fall… That map runs the worst of any. I can be looking at a wall close up, and still get very low FPS. Maybe it is the dynamic background, don’t know.

BO2 started like this as well. Took a couple of patches to get it right. We shall see.

…another note. Extinction gameplay is pretty darn smooth. Actually had a lot of fun playing Extinction last night.

To stop the game running in high priority go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Duty Ghosts\players2 and edit the config_mp.cfg file.
search for the following: seta r_elevatedPriority and where there is a “1″ set it to “0″

So I have the same problem to date as everyone els with stuttering and lag. And have tried all the fixes which dont work. I have 100gig solid state hd. Phenom 2 6core 16gb system ram and a 7970 HD video card. And should run this game with ease. But instead continues to run like garbage. I really am kicking myself for spending $125 on the hardened pack. This is nov 14 all ready. What is going on here with infinaty ward. Come on now. This will surely be the last time I buy into this garbage. I have played every single cod and this is just ridiculous to release a game and not fix it given this much time…….if anyone finds any way to fix the issues please e mail me im getting real fed up with this garbage unplayable game.

ghosts keeps running in task manager consuming large amounts of memory and CPU after shutdown. I have never experienced this before. I actually had to end the process in task manager to stop it.
Any thoughts?
