Codemasters Bringing Dragonology and Wizardology to the Wii and DS
NiK NaK Games and Codemasters are turning two of the most popular ‘ologies’ books from Candlewick/Templar Publishing into games for the Nintendo Wii. Dragonology and Wizardology are both slated for an August 1st release.
With the focus of these two new actions games being on younger players, the developers are concentrating on ways that will make the Wii Remote an intuitive control device for the younger player, whilst allowing more experienced players the challenge of perfecting their performance. NiK NaK is promising to create an experience that reflects the immersive nature of the books and with such inspirational subject matter as a base, we can only guess at how popular these game may prove to be with younger gamers.
If you are not familiar with the books, “Dragonology” explores the study and conservation of dragons, while “Wizardology” is a manual of spells and magical information, purported to be written by Merlin. “Dragonology” was a facsimile of an “original book” published in 1896, with large foldout pages, small inset foldouts, and maps showing dragons as indigenous to most parts of the world, and the book covers everything from dragon habitats, physiology, and behavior to finding, tracking, taming, and flying them. “Wizardology” was “discovered” in 1588, this text “written” by Merlin himself is also illustrated and conceals a series of hidden symbols that spell out a secret message when their code is deciphered.
A Pirateology game is also in the works and is expected to hit shelves sometime in December. All three of these titles are great books and highly entertaining no matter what age you are and I can only hope that the games retain the magic and sense of wonder that the books inspire within the imaginations of younger generations.
