College Student Recreate’s Halo’s Zanzibar Map Using Legos

Does anyone else find it a little odd that video games and Legos seem to cross paths on a regular basis? At any rate, a college student from God-Knows-Where University recreated the entire Zanzibar map in Halo using Legos:

“After nearly two years of building and thousands of dollars sunk into my project, it’s finished. This is my latest video which details how I made my famous Lego model of Zanzibar from it’s very first stage, to the now near completed form. I wanted to make this video so that everyone will get the facts straight. I originally sent the picture and video files that you’ll see in this video to Bungie Studios where they incorporated them into the Halo 3 Legendary edition bonus disk.”

Apparently, he put this together to use as a set in a future stop-motion film, which I sincerely hope is his senior project or something. Seriously, I did not have that much free time in college.

That really is badass. Hopefully nobody decides to trample all over it in a bully-type fashion.

On October 4, 2007 at 4:22 pm

I think you’d injure yourself trying to trample over that.

Certainly looks very cool. A bit too much time spent on it, but still cool.

Do I hear a new LEGO series from Bungie!?

On October 5, 2007 at 1:32 pm

I wonder how many women you could have nailed instead during the time it took to build this…

On October 5, 2007 at 1:50 pm

Cool story. Grocer’s apostrophe in the headline must die, though

On October 5, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Good thing your parents had a big basement.

On October 5, 2007 at 1:59 pm

Re: I wonder how many women you could have nailed instead during the time it took to build this…

None. The answer is none.

On October 5, 2007 at 2:26 pm

get a life dude…

On October 5, 2007 at 2:38 pm

LEGO® is the name of the company not the product so he didn’t make it out of Legos he made it out of LEGO® bricks.

^^I think the above post might have been about me

On October 5, 2007 at 2:47 pm

It’s all good man,
If you’re anything like me, you’re just an over achiever, always needing something to keep your spare time. I spend mine working on motorcycles, you spend yours on legos, it’s all good.

Now if he was sewing cloths to cover the lego’s to make it look like normal Halo terrain, then i’d be worried.

On October 5, 2007 at 2:55 pm

Please fix the title. Recreate’s should not have a ‘ in it.

On October 5, 2007 at 3:09 pm

un-freaking-believable…and no, I don’t say this because of how impressed I am with this.

seriously. What next…a battle between his old GI Joes and He-man figures?

On October 5, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Anyone on here accusing this guy of not having a life or not “nailing any chicks”, you have no right to talk. You posted a comment on a GAMING website. You are also a nerd.

That is one kick-ass LEGO model. Wish I had time to make something that cool.

“Seriously, I did not have that much free time in college.”

Sure you did, you probably just spent it drinking. Or sleeping. Or debating politics or something.

It really irritates me to see people rail on other people’s hobbies. He had a good time, he created something cool, why bust on him for it? I didn’t see him pointing and laughing at gamers…

On October 5, 2007 at 4:26 pm

There’s only one Zanzibar, and it’s not from Halo. Sorry you wasted your time, next play some MGS and model the original one.

On October 5, 2007 at 5:27 pm

Get a life, a girlfriend or something (=

On October 5, 2007 at 5:53 pm

There is no “s” in “Lego” ass face! So embarrassing.

On October 5, 2007 at 6:20 pm

Get a life!

On October 5, 2007 at 7:20 pm

Why do you guys have to be so negative i mean its freaking the entire map of Zanzibar in Lego form why dont you one of you try and do it i personally love this idea of halo 3 Lego sets this guy should sell this to Lego and have them market it in a smaller and simpler form

On October 5, 2007 at 7:54 pm

WHY? Why do this? There is no end result to this other than a huge waste of time, money, effort… Your fingertips are probably nothing more than bloody stumps.

To all the morons who tell this guy to get a life, ask yourselves the following questions. A. Have I ever accomplished anything in my life that didn’t take more than my right hand and one minute to do? B. Should my Dad have settled for a b.j.? or should he have pulled out early and spewed me all over the wall?

On October 6, 2007 at 5:56 am

cool, but you should get the deshaker plugin for virtualdub.

On October 6, 2007 at 9:20 am

On October 6, 2007 at 11:16 am

Sure, you put a lot of work into this, and that’s cool for you, I guess.

But dude… get the hell over yourself.

“I did this part, no one knows about this.”
“…design change on my part…”

You’re building a halo level out of lego pieces, it’s not that important.

Just sounded like you stroking yourself for 10 minutes about how much you know about this level, and how much attention you put into it.

On October 6, 2007 at 12:55 pm

To that Steve person who said the guy was stroking his ego, You’ve never actually made anything that you feel proud about, have you? The guy is excited because he made something pretty huge, and after finishing it, feeling he just made a huge accomplishment.

If you didn’t want to watch a video about him being proud of his achievement, then why did you sit through it?

Also, I love how everyone is freaking at this guy like he posted the video here and will see their snide remarks. He did this to have alittle fun, have none of you ever did that or are your lives to meaningless you have to justify your existance by getting lots of ? Also, please reply and insult my post! I’ll never see your replies anyways.

thousands of hours to build, but would only take me minutes to destroy.

a metaphor for the fragileness of the human body

On October 6, 2007 at 4:07 pm

If I could have built it, I would have too. And you know what? Any chick who goes ‘lol, you’re spending all your time building legos wat a luzer!’ doesn’t deserve a spot on my .

A cool chick would’ve helped out, or tried to compete and build a model of a different level and try to finish before you did.

Sure, it’s dorky, but it’s cool. I mean, it beats sitting around watching television for 40 hours a week.

On October 7, 2007 at 5:07 pm

Legos is not a word. Lego works for plural and singular.

On October 7, 2007 at 7:43 pm

I enjoy video games and LEGOS immensely. I’m an attractive, intelligent, heterosexual girl.

So shut it, s. This guy is obviously creative and resourceful, which is more than what I can say for you flamers.

Women (excepting loose hoes) admire hard-working men. We think guys that spend their time getting laid and smashed are wastes of time.

Anyway, awesome job, Alex. That is incredible!

fricking awesome!

On June 12, 2008 at 11:45 pm

You guys need to shut up about him needing a life and . He is doing something with his life, he maybe was bored one day and wanted to achieve something big,he’s obviously very artistic and creative, and doesn’t quit his work. And having sex all your life isn’t any better. You will get further in life with doing things like this than you will by having sex with hookers and posting that on the computer. So just shut up.

On July 9, 2008 at 9:55 am

all the guys that said this guys a sissy. you probably can’t talk. i mean i respect this guy and appreciate what hes doing with his life. you lot are most likely people without any friends at all. losers.

On July 10, 2008 at 1:22 pm

Wow! do you think he’s going to turn it into Last Resort some day?

On November 23, 2008 at 7:56 pm

u s obviously dont in understand maybe he got bored while playin halo and decided he would recreate it with lego pieces so honestly ive attempted doing stuff like this and it didnt work he took it to the limit here actually making that if bungie saw it theyed like pay em er sumthin but u people who say he cant do anything else with his life are WRONG people like him are just smarter than u and u gotta try to make em feel bad and daddy cat if u gonna leave a comment like that ur hasnt been sucked befor lol

On December 19, 2009 at 2:19 am

Run-on sentence…

On December 19, 2009 at 2:29 am

I think it’s a really neat model, but I believe there is a fine line between ‘obsession’ and a ‘hobby’. Hobby would be making a cool little scene, a Warthog or something else like that. ‘Obsession’ is spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of time on a video game. Don’t get me wrong- I enjoy building Lego and like video games, but THIS is a bit over the top. Albeit, if you have thousands of dollars to spend on this and way too much free time, be my guest. But good model, anyway.

On September 5, 2010 at 1:50 pm

this is sooo sad. not the lego thing, of course not, i mean the people who are slowly losing their self confidence by posting angry comments. at the end of the comment you might feel like your number 1, but at the end of the day, what did you acomplish? nothing, but your just jealous because he accomplished a whole ing lego map from halo and if hes such a nerd or he hasnt dont any thing, you haters make a video showing what you do all day.
