Colorado Teaching Teens Money Management with Financial Football

West High school in Denver Colorado kicked off Sen. Wayne Allard’s statewide Teen Financial Literacy Program at West High School in Denver on Tuesday.

Allard partnered with Visa Incorporated is seeking to educate youth statewide on money management using a video game called Financial Football. This free game also has the support of the National Football League.

Former Broncos linebacker Karl Mecklenburg made an appearance with Allard at the launch to promote Financial Football.

Mecklenburg told students even NFL players have debt. “During practice, one of our players had his Porsche repoed.”

Students play against each other as in football answering money-related questions correctly to score points. Wrong answers earn penalties for your team. The player with the most points at the end of 4th quarter wins.

Allard felt the need to start this program to help stem the high foreclosure rate and credit card debt in Colorado.

“The number of foreclosures in Colorado is more than any other state,” he said.

“Teens at the age of 16 are a perfect target group,” he said. “It when they first get introduced to credit when they buy a car.”

Colorado isn’t the only state to be implementing this financial training game. Financial Football is popping up in classrooms across the US. If you want to test your own financial knowledge, try your skills by playing Financial Football online.
