Come With Me If You Want To Play Hot Human Vs. Terminator Action
We’ll cut right to the point. We reported on FPS Terminator back in June, and finally, after month of waiting, a playable Alpha demo of the Unreal Tournament 3 mod has finally been released. Happily for everyone out there who loves gratuitous cybernetic destruction, it’s available right now. Unhappily, it’s shorter than Fable 1.
Below the fold, we got more information, plus the trailer and download links.
A quick refresher for those of you just walking into the room. FPS Terminator began life as a Gears of War mod but that attempt was wisely abandoned, and it’s now (mostly) based on Unreal Tournament 3. It’s also exactly what it says right there on the package: a first person shooter set in the Terminator universe’s fantastical, far-off futuristic year 2029*. You play as a member of the embattled human resistance, wielding truly awesome weaponry against Hunter-Killer Tanks, Hunter-Killer Planes, but sadly not the Resurrected, Terminatorized corpse of Hunter S. Thompson. I’d have preferred to battle it out in 1980′s Los Angeles for the chance to prevent a certain Austrian cyborg from running for governor, but alas, the total destruction of California in a nuclear holocaust would probably only increase his chances.
A NOTE: The demo is short – they’re claiming it’s about 5 to 10 minutes of total playtime max. This is most definitely a work in progress in the strictest definition of the term, so the demo is more chance to see where they’re going than anything else. It’s still pretty cool, and if you don’t mind limiting your cybermurdering to the approximate time it takes to make a iced chai latte, you can download the alpha demo here. Now, for your enjoyment, here’s the trailer.
*Remember in the 80s when the 21st century was The Future? Now we’re just under 5 years away from Back To The Future II times. Still no hoverboards. Still no flying cars. Still no self-tying shoes. Then again, at least it’s not as embarassing as the fact that by 2005 we were supposed to have giant transforming cities.
