Company of Heroes 2 Release Date Announced
Sega has announced today that Company of Heroes 2, the real-time strategy sequel by Relic Entertainment, is scheduled for release on June 25, 2013 in both North America and Europe.
The game was previously in development for THQ but after the publisher went under, Sega picked up the tab and the developer along with it. In doing so, the new publisher pushed back its release to allow Relic to add more polish to the game. Under THQ’s timeline, it was originally slated for a March 2013 release.
As a sequel to one of most highly rated strategy games of all time, Company of Heroes 2 has very high expectations to meet. The original Company of Heroes was released to critical acclaim on the PC and saw the release of two expansions.
To that end, the new game sees the inclusion of a realistic weather system and a dynamic line-of-sight system—features that have never been implemented in an RTS before.
“We hate to disappoint our fans with a later than expected date as we know they are eager to play but we feel that the additional time will help the team deliver the high quality sequel they deserve.” said Greg Wilson, Company of Heroes 2 producer. “However, the wait won’t be long as players will soon be able to help us test and balance multiplayer in the upcoming Closed Beta. Details will follow shortly.”
