Company of Heroes 2 Sales Halted in Russian Territories

The sales of Relic Entertainment’s Company of Heroes 2 (a game that we reviewed here) has been put on hold in the territories of the Russian Federation and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in the former Soviet Union, following complaints from the public that the game portrayed Russian soldiers during WWII in a negative light.

A statement was made by the Russian arm of the publisher 1C Publishing to that effect. 1C Softclub was responsible for the distribution of the game in Russian territories.

A machine translation from the 1C Softclub official website follows.

“In connection with appeals of people who consider unacceptable number of episodes of the game, the company “1C-SoftKlab” chose c 26 July 2013 to stop selling PC game Company of Heroes 2 (developer – Relic Entertainment, publisher – SEGA) in the territory of the Russian Federation and CIS . At the moment we are analyzing the situation and inform the developer and publisher of Company of Heroes 2.”
