Company of Heroes 2 Single-Player Dev Diary Explores Critical Themes

Relic Entertainment has posted a new developer diary to talk about Company of Heroes 2‘s single-player campaign. The developers take the opportunity to explain how players will take part in actual historical battles that took place across the Eastern Front, in some of the most brutal events of the Second World War.

“In Company of Heroes 2, we did something we hadn’t done before in previous games,” said Quinn Duffy, Game Director. “We actually took a research trip to Europe to visit some of the locations that we’ve been trying to portray in the game to get a sense of the history and the culture and the scaleā€”a feeling for these two armies that fought each other.”

“We base our story on history,” he said. “There’s a number of characters that we’ve kind of composited into ours. We’re really trying to get their experiences across and portray the horror and terror of World War II in a way that is sensitive but unflinching.”

The game’s single-player campaign makes up a large portion of Company of Heroes 2, which also features a cohesive multiplayer mode and a series of co-op missions from the perspectives of both Soviet and German forces.

Company of Heroes 2 is set for release on June 25 on the PC.
