Company of Heroes Online Beta Closing March 31
The Company of Heroes Online Beta has been going on for quite some time, as we first saw the game at E3 last year. It was focused on bringing the RTS gameplay of the Company of Heroes retail game to an online environment.
In an announcement on the game’s official website, the closing is announced as follows:
After an exciting period of operating and testing, we will be closing Open Beta on March 31, 2011 to evaluate the next steps for the Company of Heroes series. As of today, you can no longer purchase COHO Cash from the website, but you will be able to spend any purchased COHO Cash in the game until March 31, 2011. We will also honor any COHO Cash Card redemptions on the website until March 1, 2011.
If you were participating in the beta prior to today, you’ve got a little thank-you gift coming from THQ and Relic. Visit this link, and you’ll receive a copy of the Company of Heroes Gold Edition for only $4.99 from the THQ store.
The announcements also details a new patch headed for the retail game that “addresses several multiplayer balance issues, game exploits, and integrates fixes that were made in Company of Heroes Online.” No word yet on when we can expect the patch, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
THQ is being tight-lipped on where the CoH franchise is headed, so we’ll have to wait and see if CoH Online is headed for a full release, or if they’ve got something completely different up their sleeves. We should find out soon, since the announcement closes with this line:
We are excited to reveal the next evolution of the series in the near future.
Maybe we’ll get to tell you about while we’re out at E3 2011.
