Confirmed: DriveClub Bumped to Early 2014
And another one’s down, another one’s down, another PlayStation 4 day one launch title bites the dust.
An audible sigh rose from PlayStation 4 pre-order customers around the world on Tuesday when Ubisoft delayed day one launch title Watch Dogs to spring 2014. Sigh probably isn’t the best descriptor to use there, especially for those of you who pre-ordered the PS4 Watch Dogs bundle. Expletive? Yeah, that sounds more accurate.
“SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DriveClub and DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014,” SCE President Shuhei Yoshida stated. “DriveClub will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.”
DriveClub is described as a next-gen, team-based racer, and it was unique for two reasons: it was going to be free to all PlayStation Plus members, and it’s supposedly among the first games to use the rumored virtual reality headset that many claim Sony is planning to launch for the PS4. Total speculation here, but it could well be that Sony is still trying to iron out the kinks with its VR headset, and that’s the real reason for DriveClub’s delay.
Whatever the reason, Sony plans to fill the now empty PlayStation Plus free PS4 game slot vacated by DriveClub with Contrast, the promising light/dark puzzler from Compulsion Games.
