Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies Will Swarm Onto Steam

Counter-Strike has seen multiple re-releases in North America, but none quite like what was developed for Asia. Counter-Strike Online 2 is a free-to-play edition developed by South Korea’s Nexon Corporation, offering game modes and character models specifically tailored to Asian markets. Now it turns out that one specific game mode will get a western relaunch, and of course, it involves zombies.

Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies will bring CS: Online 2′s zombie mode to Steam in the third quarter of 2014. The game is expected to be free-to-play and still includes traditional Counter-Strike modes like Hostage Rescue and Bomb Defusing.

Assuming that the new zombies are similar to CS: Online 2′s, gameplay should be familiar to anyone who played Call of Duty’s Infected match. The majority of players start out on the human team, but upon death turn into zombies that try to swarm the remaining survivors. The zombies are described as “quick, aggressive, and dangerous” in Nexon’s press release, and based on CS Online footage can take out humans in a single hit.

We certainly have no shortage of zombie modes these days, but the Counter-Strike gameplay and maps might be enough to attract players to this new iteration, and the free-to-play access certainly shouldn’t hurt.
