Counter-Strike Global Offensive Hostage Mode Revamped
Counter-Strike has come a long way since its heyday as a mod for Half-Life 2. Its latest iteration from Valve, CS: Global Offensive, has been updated today with the return of the classic CS map cs_militia. The remade map is accompanied by a veritable host of tweaks and changes to the game, which include a reworked hostage rescue mode.
From today, hostage positions will be randomly assigned at the beginning of the match so neither the terrorists nor their counter-terrorist counterparts will be able to rush to the previously static locations in which the hostages were located. Once the hostages are found, the CTs will have to pick them up and carry them rather than lead them away on foot. Doing so will hinder their movement, and force their teammates to protect them.
Players must hold the use key for four seconds to pick up their hostage, or equip a hostage rescue kit to reduce the time needed to three seconds. In addition, the new mode will feature a reduced round timer, which is extended when the first hostage is picked up. CTs will win the round once the first hostage is rescued. Pre-existing maps, including cs_office, cs_assault, and cs_italy have been altered to accommodate the new hostage rescue mode with new spawn points.
Besides changes to the hostage rescue mode, players will now have to face the bomb they are disarming. Turning away too far away from it will cancel the disarming procedure.
Steam will automatically download the update, so you should be good to go if you already have the game installed.
