Crowdfunding Project Gamesplanet Lab Debuts First Game

You’d have to be living under a rock these days to be unfamiliar with Kickstarter, the online crowdfunding service that’s churning out games left and right. You’d be forgiven, though, for not having heard of the Gamesplanet Lab, a specialized online service that brings together digital distribution, crowdfunding (provided by Ulule), and a variety of indie developers. Projects are carefully handpicked to ensure quality, and collaboration between the three companies continues throughout the entire process of making and selling a game.

Today, the Lab went live with its first project, Magrunner: Dark Pulse, “an action-adventure mashup of Lovecraftian Horror and a cyberpunk future.” Developed by 3AM Games, which is comprised of former Frogwares employees, the game wears its influences (i.e. Portal) on its sleeve, though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Check out the official page to learn more about the game and to see the Gamesplanet Lab’s slick-looking website in action. The European company provides an interesting spin on the Kickstarter formula, and the Lab might be able to nurture some interesting games that would have perished without it.
