Crysis 3: How To Unlock FOV

Crysis 3 is now live on Origin, and the first thing you’ll want to do before you get comfortable with the game is to modify its settings.

The best part about being playing the game on the PC is having access to a veritable host of options to configure how the game looks.

By default, your field of view in Crysis 3 is a little constrained, and while that looks great in screenshots, it might not be the best setting to play the game on a widescreen monitor. If you want to alter the game’s field of view to something wider (or narrower, depending on your taste), you can do so by entering the following code into developer console.

To enter the dev console, simply hit the tilde key (~) above the tab button. Type in the following code and hit enter to find out what your field of view is currently set to:

cl_fov

The Crysis 3 open beta limited the FOV setting to a maximum of 80, so be sure to play around with it. An FOV of anywhere between 80 to 90 is suggested for widescreen displays. If you’d like to toggle your FOV to 80, simply toggle the dev console, type in the following code and hit enter:

cl_fov 80

You can close the dev console by hitting the tilde key once more.

Further commands can be found our Crysis 3 Developer Console Command guide.

Wow…… just wow. It never ceases to amaze me why this isn’t a standard option in 1st person PC games. Yeah, it’s easy enough to edit an .ini file or use a console command with certain games, but a wider FOV is utilized by so many PC gamers. It seems like it would be so simple to implement, and so appreciated and/or needed by many of us!
